About this course
This course is designed to support the development of practical knowledge and skills to enable the graduate to provide valid and timely WHS advice and assist with improving safety in the workplace. The course covers a broad range of health and safety functions and responsibilities in the workplace including identifying hazards, assessing WHS risks, implementing strategies to control WHS risks and evaluating an organisation’s WHS performance.
Designed for
Individuals who are currently working in a WHS role, those seeking employment is a WHS role, or those working under limited supervision and who may provide leadership and guidance to others relating to WHS matters.
Delivery Method
NCA Consulting & Training delivered this course via eight (8) x six (6) hour face to face workshops with at least 2 weeks between workshops. Workshops and practical sessions will, where possible, use documentation, policies and procedures from the participants’ workplaces.
The workshops complement on the job training and assessment, and participants have access to the trainer via email and phone between workshops if required for additional support.
The selected units of competency require approximately 440 hours to complete, which when combined with the face to face workshops, also requires a commitment to at least 20 hours per week of independent study or applied work to the related assessment tasks.
Duration
In general it takes 6 to 12 Months from enrolment to complete all learning and assessment. More experienced workers may be able to apply for recognition of prior learning to reduce the time taken to achieve the learning outcomes.
Pre-entry Requirements
To enrol in this course you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to apply for a Unique Student Identifier. Visit www.usi.gov.au for more information on Unique Student Identifiers.
Pre-requisites
There are no formal entry requirements however it is highly recommended that participants have access to a workplace in order to complete the assessments.
Participants must have access to, and be proficient at using, the following in order to complete their training and assessments:
- Computer with internet connection
- Microsoft Office with MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint for document creation
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Basic research skills

Content & Delivery Details
The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety provides participants with the knowledge and skills to:
- Implement and support the WHS management system.
- Prepare and advise workplace personnel for dealing with WHS issues.
- Understand WHS legislative requirements and assist with monitoring workplace compliance.
- Implement WHS initiatives and processes that support organisational WHS goals.
- Apply knowledge of risk assessment to contribute to the selection of risk-assessment techniques, tools and processes for common hazards.
- Contribute to setting up and running of WHS consultation and participation processes.

Assessment
Assessment activities include a combination of knowledge questions, scenarios and workplace projects. Upon successful completion of all assessment tasks, graduates will be awarded the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety BSB41415.
Delivery Location
NCA Consulting &Training can conduct training courses at our facility or yours under the following requirements:
- Minimum 6 participants
- Maximum 20 participants (conditions apply)
- Suitable room for theory component
- Suitable area for practical component (risk assessment and site inspection conducted)
